Nature is the ultimate artist, transforming everyday scenes into extraordinary masterpieces. Each autumn in Tasmania’s Central Highlands, nature's artistry unfolds spectacularly in an event known as the "Turning of the Fagus". This annual transformation showcases the Nothofagus gunnii—Tasmania’s only native deciduous tree and a remarkable survivor from the ancient days of Gondwana.
Every year, around ANZAC Day on April 25th, explorers, photographers, and nature lovers journey into Tasmania’s wild highlands, drawn by the fleeting beauty of the fagus. During this brief but breathtaking season, the Nothofagus gunnii transitions from vibrant green to a dazzling array of colours including copper, amber, gold, and deep crimson, creating a rich and colourful tapestry that blankets the forest floor.
The Nothofagus gunnii, commonly known as the 'tanglefoot beech,' owes its nickname to its dense, intricately intertwined branches. It was this tangle of thick branches that inspired the design of our beautiful Branch & Twig Rings within The Nothofagus Collection. Flourishing at higher elevations and cooler climates unique to Tasmania, the tree adorns alpine lakes and mountain slopes, lending unmatched charm to these remote landscapes. Some of these hardy trees have quietly witnessed centuries of Tasmania’s history unfold around them.
We are continually inspired by this transient yet captivating display of natural beauty and have created some magical limited-edition pieces to add to our collection. Each handcrafted piece mirrors the changing hues of the fagus, carefully shaped from 18k gold in shades of radiant rose, rich yellow, and sophisticated white, encapsulating the essence of autumn's fleeting brilliance. The Limited Edition Tourmaline Nothofagus Cocktail Ring, and The Nothofagus Leaf Bracelet, all inspired by the delicate beauty and wild alchemy of the fagus leaf.
Through this collection, we continue to highlight Tasmania’s exceptional natural beauty and advocate for the preservation of our precious wild landscapes.
